More than half of Brits are suffering with an over-cluttered property, leading to a decrease in happiness levels at home.
According to brand new data from storage experts KitKeeper.co.uk, 54 per cent of homeowners admit that they would be happier if their homes were less cluttered. Forty per cent stated that they did not have enough storage in their homes.
Many mental health studies by industry experts across the globe have pinpointed a cluttered environment as being a catalyst for anxiety, stress, and a lack of productivity. Clutter can affect our sleep quality, and ability to focus, triggering coping and avoidance strategies.

Geographically there were variations in the statistics. English city Nottingham is home to those who felt most overwhelmed, with 67 per cent agreeing that they would be happier if they had less clutter. This was followed by:
- Cardiff and Manchester with 58%
- Liverpool with 56%
- Leeds with 52%
- Edinburgh with 51%
- London with 50%
- Sheffield with 49%
Forty per cent of homeowners admitted they needed more storage space in my home, with Cardiff agreeing most strongly with this statement, with 48 per cent struggling to store their belongings.
Despite this, only 11 per cent had considered using external storage to solve the problem.

Founder of KitKeeper.co.uk, Michael McCreadie said he isn’t surprised by the research results.
“As the population grows and housing space is at a premium, many of us are living in small homes with little storage space. Despite that, we are consumers of more belongings than ever before, especially as relates to hobbies, pets, and children.
“Too much clutter has an undeniable effect on our health and happiness - but throwing away or donating items we are likely to need again is a waste of time and money. Taking out an external storage unit to store items such as hobby-related equipment, baby cots or buggies for an expected second child, or even clothes we plan to sell, can be a great way to solve this issue.”
